Both JohnDelivers and I have been talking about the upcoming event posted in the WWR Forum under “Honor the Fallen Escort” and we wanted to make sure everyone gets this information. For those of you who only receive our emails and do not go to the WWR Forum here is the information about this Mission.

On August 22 and 23, 2009, a team of 24 dedicated runners will run from Cape May NJ, to Holmdel, NJ. ( About 140 miles ) Each mile will be run IN MEMORY of a New Jersey Soldier, Sailor, Airmen, or Marine killed in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM. For two days, team members will mark each mile with an American flag and sign card in an apolitical reflection of remembrance of each service member.(total 124) The runners will be comprised of active duty and reserve Airmen and Soldiers from McGuire Air Force Base and Ft Dix, NJ. We have been asked to assist with this Honor and Remembrance Mission by escorting the runners.

We have the GPS locations of each mile marked where they will stop to place their flag and sign card, At each location we can have a WWR member with a Flag standing by waiting for them to arrive. (IMAGINE THE VIEW of them running towards you) We will Mount up and take the lead escort to the next spot.
Since we have the entire locations route GPS and we know about how fast they are running (they will run a 9:30 minute mile) We know where they will be and when. So the Bikes can "LEAP FROG" from one location to another. If you move up the road 5 miles you will have a 50 minute cool down period for you and your bike. We have been asked to LIMIT the size of the Escort to no more then 4 Bikes at any given time DUE to Safety of the runners. (The Roads are narrow and the Police do not want it to be a Traffic bottleneck.) So the LEAP FROG method is actually a very good idea. As long as everyone knows you will be “ON DUTY ESCORTING” for a specific amount of miles, then you will need to go ahead and wait your turn again.

On Aug 23, when the Runners get into Holmdel NJ They will meet up with the SECOND Phase of this mission/Event. There will be a COMBINED 10K run (NOT A RACE) but a Run with 124 runners who will be wearing the names of fallen HEROES on their vests. This PART of the mission does NOT have a limit of Motorcycle escorts involved, So If you want, Rally in Holmdel at the TBD site and Escort the 124 runners Through the Street of the city to their Final Destination, The Veterans Memorial.

ONE thing we do need is an APPROXIMATE head count of who can make Either Day or BOTH of these escorts on Aug 22,23.

So, PLEASE PLEASE remember that these emails we put out are going to a few hundred people, DO NOT EMAIL ME back with a reason you cant make it… PLEASE ONLY email me back if you can make it… Something easy to understand…

For Example: “Yes I can make it Aug 22 but NOT Aug 23”

OR

“NO Not Aug 22 BUT I will be in Holmdel for the 23 Escort”

This sounds like a lot to ask..... But what I keep thinking about are the Gold Star Moms (Dads) ... What they have already given, The Pain and suffering that has already swept through their Families, How can we NOT do this?
