Update from Chap. 7What an interesting year. I've seen many riders come and go. Chap. 7 was dormant for a while and finally waking up. With the overwhelming number of deployment, its really hard to keep riders around.
Just wanted to update your board with our new link http://75.70.113.198:911/ This site will not work on gov't pc's, which something that I am trying to fix. Feel free to browse or even create a user account. Oh BTW, I take constructive criticism well

Hello again. I checked your website. Looked okay to me. Might wanna consider setting up some DNS so it can be found by name instead of IP. If you do the DNS thing keep in mind it can take 10 days for name propagation. The crawlers (search engines) can take upwards of a few months to get the site logged once propagation occurs.

Thanks for the review. I'll have to looking into the DNS thing. Just one question, can I assign a DNS even if this is just a spare pc at home? I guess I need more guidance. You can email me if you'd at gkra-chap7@comcast.net. Thanks again.

Terry -
There are two ways to enable computers to find a site by name. Either the root domain must be registered OR a sub-domain delegation.
One registers a name (whatever.com, site.org) at a service. There a bunchs of them. Use to be Internic was the only one, now there's lots. One can also get a sub-domian from something already registered. In other words if the name website.com was registered then sub.website.com would be a legal delegated sub-domain.
Once you have the name figured out one needs to consider how to do the actual dns resolution. One can setup servers (usually 2) to do the name resolution OR one can use a public service to do it. When the name is registered one tells the registering service the IP addresses of the DNS. Then when a call (search) comes in looking for a the name the registering service can bounce the name call to the correct server (IP) to get the name resolved into a location (IP). Need more?

Now I understand the DNS linggo thing. You'd think for a webmaster I would know all of this stuff. Would I be able to register a DNS using an IP address from my home pc? You realize that the web site that you are seeing is from a spare pc that's in my basement running an old window XP. When Chap 7 started, no one really wanted to pay dues, so I came up with this solution. It was more of a test site.
I thought that in order for me to register a DNS I must purchase/rent a static ip from my ISP? I will look into registering a DNS. Thanks for all the help man.

There are sites that do dynamic dns. I will also tell you that static for a web server is the better choice.
Providers do not like to use static. It's a money thing. If I am a provider and have a block of say 16 IP address I can either do it static or dynamic. I'm the provider, they are my IPs, it's my choice. If I do static then I can have a base of 16 users and I'm done. If I do dynamic I can do a base of say 18 users and gamble that not all my users will be one line at the same time. I can over sell my product. They do it ALL THE TIME.

Thanks man for the info. I will look into DNS more sometime. Tomorrow I have a big ride planned. Have to get all the rides that I can before the snow season comes. I don't know if someone from here have seen my post and has been trying to access my site multiple times. The ip address starts with a 66 and I believe thats the east coast. You can't post anything on my site as a GUEST unless you do it on the Visitors Area, you need to log on. Just ask and you shall receive.

Thanks for the tid bit pjirinec. I've updated my server with a registered domain http://www.greenknights7.com Incidentally, I tried to create an account here but the verification code wouldn't show on the screen. I also emailed the webmaster but didn't get a response back. Just an FYI.
